Summer Fun

Summer is one of our favorite times of year because that means camps are in session! We'll be having fun in the sun with kids from all across the Mid-South each week in June, and we wanted to check in with our first group of campers to see what kind of fun they are having. This week was Adventure Camp, which features activities focused on nature, exploration and fun for grades 3-6.

These adventure-seeking kids spent the week exploring the Park, canoeing, practicing archery, learning about native plant and animal species and just having fun! While it was tough to pull them away from the excitement of camp, a few campers took the time to let us know what they learned and what they loved about their week at the Park.

Our campers choose "nature names," which they go by during their time at camp, and we've use those below. Here's who we chatted with:

Night Wolf (aka Jackson) |  Age: 9
Maple (aka Caitlin) | Age : "almost 10, well really 9, but almost because 10 because my birthday is in July"
Kit-Cat (aka Savannah) | Age: 8

Q: What is one thing you learned this week?
 Kit-Cat: Archery. It was fun!
Night Wolf: We learned how to tell if a snake is poisonous!

Follow up Q: That seems like important info that we should know, too! How do you tell the difference?
A: Night Wolf: You can tell by the shape of their heads and their eyes. If they have cat-like eyes, they are poisonous.

Q: What did you like most at camp?
A: Maple: Getting to see animal artifacts up close!
    Kit-Cat: Canoeing and archery!
    Night Wolf: Canoeing and archery!

Q: Can you describe camp in one word?
A: Maple: AWESOME!
    Night Wolf: Fun!

Q: Is there anything else you'd like the world to know about camp?
A: Night Wolf: I just really had fun!

What does it take to run a really fun camp? A lot of planning, a great staff (pictured below) and community support!

This summer's fun is made possible by ARS | Conway Services, who let us know why they love supporting our camps:

"ARS | Conway Services has partnered with Shelby Farms Park for several years because the Park is a tremendous asset to the community. We are proud to be a sponsor of Shelby Farms Park's Youth Summer Camp. Programs such as that provide enrichment activities for children, nurture young minds and help them appreciate and protect the environment." -- ARS | Conway Services

There is a lot more summer fun on the horizon! Let us know what you're most excited about in the comments below or on social media!
