  • Stroller Strides presented by FIT4MOM Memphis

    Stroller Strides® is a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies. It includes power walking/jogging and intervals of strength and body toning exercise using exercise tubing, your stroller, and the environment. Taught by certified fitness instructors with specialty training in the pre and post natal woman, it is a great workout for any level of exerciser. All of our instructors abide by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ recommendations for exercises. Stroller Strides® instructors weave songs and activities into the routine designed to engage and entertain baby, while moms are led through a series of exercises specific to her role as mom.

    Cost: First week free, $45 per month.

  • Get Outside! Fitness: Strength + Balance

    The strength and balance class will be a 45 minute class designed for seniors and people with type 2 diabetes. Participants will work with light hand weights, resistance bands and small inflatable balls. Class will start with a brief warm-up followed by strength training and light cardio, finishing with a cool down and stretch.

  • Get Outside! Fitness: Tai Chi

    Relieve stress and increase flexibility by participating in Tai Chi classes led by a certified instructor Richard Link, a Senior Trainer at Tai Chi for Health Institute. Tai Chi is an ancient practice that is enjoyable and safe for every fitness level. The slow, meditative movements of Tai Chi increase strength, range of motion and coordination. Classes can be enjoyed either sitting or standing. Comfortable shoes and loose clothing are recommended. Please bring a personal water bottle.

  • Get Outside! Fitness: Better Body Boot Camp

    Bodyweight strength training
    This group fitness class is 60 minutes of bodyweight strength training and high impact exercises. The instructor pushes the participants by incorporating full-body exercises in addition to muscle isolation exercises. Therefore, this class is not designed for first-time exercisers. Be ready to work hard, sweat, and push through this challenging training session. Expect to come in strong and crawl out stronger!

  • Get Outside! Fitness: Lakefront Fitness

    Strength training and general conditioning

    This fitness class is a combination of strength training and conditioning designed to increase power, muscular endurance, cardiovascular fitness, and coordination while building muscle and burning fat. Equipment such as medicine balls, resistance bands and weight bars are used to target each participant’s ability. Come experience overall improved fitness while being coached by trainers from NBS Fitness in Memphis.

    When:  Fridays at 12pm - Classes will resume on January 12, 2018.

Each week will feature a different sequence and peak pose. This class is great for people new to yoga or students who want to re-connect with their fundamentals. Emphasis is placed on a strong foundation practice that you can build on for years to come. Basic postures, as well as transitions, like step-throughs and chatturangas, will be covered in depth.

  • Greenline Gardens Workshop: Pollinator Palooza

    Why is pollination important for the garden, and what wildlife and bugs make it possible? Learn about all the different types of pollinators that are found in the garden, including bees, butterflies, birds, worms, and bats. We will discuss how pollinators are important for growing food and the types of plants that best attract pollinators. Participants will get to examine mason bee homes and a full beekeeping suit. Everyone will get to take home seeds to plant and attract pollinators at home.

    Basic yoga
    An all-levels class that will move, groove, and flow to upbeat music. With a different sequence and peak pose every week, this class will stay interesting and challenging as we move and breathe our way to happier hearts and more relaxed bodies.

    With good humor and lots of laughter, learn how to advance your practice without taking yourself or your practice too seriously.     Want a dog that is polite, happy and cooperative, both inside and outside of your home? Want to have a dog that is a pleasure to walk, take on adventures, and to introduce to new people and situations?  Manners 101 is the foundation course you need to help you and your dog reach this goal! We use gentle, effective, training methods based on the science of how dogs learn to help you build a cooperative and lasting bond with your dog. This class is designed as a basic manners course for dogs 4 months and older who have had no previous obedience training, or who need a refresher.

    Orientation allows potential K-9 Academy participants to learn about the Academy and our class structure before deciding to enroll their furry friends.  This is a great time to ask questions and learn about some core practices we use to build trust between you and your pet and the behavior you desire from them.  This orientation is one hour and is people-friendly only.  NO PETS PLEASE.  One orientation class is mandatory before attending your first K-9 Academy class.

  • Trekker Family Hike

    Join us for monthly guided hikes geared toward ages 50+!

    Led by a Shelby Farms Park Interpretive Docent, these walks are geared toward those ages 50+ and their families.  Our walks, which are on paved trails, will provide exercise at a comfortable pace.  You'll enjoy a chat about Park history, buffaloes and birds.  Reservations are not required.  There is no cost for these events, but donations to the Park are appreciated.  Remember your walking shoes, appropriate outdoor clothing and water bottles!  Due to the tripping hazard, pets should stay home. 

    When: 
    First and third Sundays of each month, 2pm-3pm
    Location:  Meet at the First Tennessee Foundation Visitor Center
