Dance classes for kids ages 6-14
This class introduces a structured environment that allows children to use their imagination while learning about their bodies' mobility. We will be dancing, learning about rhythm, playing games, and expressing ourselves through movement by exploring different styles of dance through multiple 6-week sessions. Pick and choose your sessions or join them all! No prior experience is needed. Experienced dancers also welcome!
CURRENT SESSION: MODERN DANCE
In this class we will be exploring the many different styles of modern dance. We will study elements of energy, space, and time in depth as you learn body mechanics, gain strength and flexibility, and increase range of motion and coordination. During the series, we will learn about Lester Horton, Jose Limon, Martha Graham, Isadora Duncan, and Merce Cunningham techniques of modern dance. Modern feet and arm positions, rolling up and down, flat backs, laterals, leg swings, stags, and prances are just a few of the steps we will be learning. We will also explore how to use our emotion through our dancing, the creative side of dance, learning composition, improvisation, and developing a basic understanding of the choreographic process. This class is for any beginner or experienced dancer.
Dates: October 22 + 29, November 5, 12 + 19
Location: First Tennessee Foundation Visitor Center
