There's always something to learn at Shelby Farms Park!  From art to Zumba, Shelby Farms Park offers an ever-changing range of programs to fit almost any interest! 

Educators: You can plan a school field trip to the Park, or, let us bring the Park to you with our mobile classroom.

Join us for Science on Saturdays!

Science on Saturdays is a family program designed to teach community members about wildlife in Shelby Farms Park.  Each Saturday session will include a specific lesson and activity.  Please see the descriptions below for specific lesson topics, fees and registration. 

Both Saturday programs will meet at the Yurt which is located by the Woodland Discovery Playground.  Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes for walking.

Habitat Lesson + Nature Hike

Saturday September 21  | 2pm-3:30pm | This program is open to adults and children ages 4 and older.
Cost: $5 per person 
This program will feature an interactive lesson about forest + lake ecosystems and the animals that make their homes in these ecosystems.  Participants will be given time to investigate animal artifacts such as mammal pelts, turtle shells, bird feathers, and a snake skin.  Following the lesson, participants will be led on a guided nature hike on an unpaved Park trail.    

*At least one adult must attend and pay for the program to accompany their child(ren). 

Owl Pellet Dissection + Nature Hike

Saturday October 12 | 2pm-3:30pm  | This program is open to adults and children ages 6 and older.*
 This program will include a lesson on food chains and food webs using hands-on animal artifacts.  In addition, participants will dissect an owl pellet to determine what the owl ate.  This program will end with a short nature walk on the Chickasaw Trail.  
Cost: $7 per person (This includes the cost of the owl pellets)
*At least one adult must attend and pay for the program to accompany their child(ren).
