Committee 9 Passes Master Plan

County Commission Committee 9 passed the Shelby Farms Park Master Plan yesterday, recommending it to the full County Commission. Many commissioners complemented the plan, the presentation and the process.  They also gave us some valuable feedback and comments.  The Master Plan will go before the full County Commission for a vote on Monday, August 4.

We’re excited about the vote, but we wanted to share congratulations with all of you who attended our public meetings and exhibitions, filled out surveys and questionnaires, viewed the exhibit on the Web site, sent in emails, called us and communicated in any other way about what the park means to you and what you want to see it become.  You helped craft this world class vision, and you should be commended for it.

You overwhelmingly supported field operations in the competition phase of the Master Plan, largely because they had bold, transformative concepts that retained a light touch to the land.  You thought that was an important balance.  We agreed.  This summer, field operations has been busy refining their original concepts by using the public input data you provided them during the competition.

We’ll get renderings and images of the plan on our Web site next week.   The field operations vision for “One Park, One Million Trees, 12 Landscapes” will allow a green treasure to reach its potential as the next great American park by enhancing what’s already here and respecting the valuable natural resources we have.   We know you’re itching for details about the phases of the plan, new trails, Patriot Lake, new and updated playgrounds, and more.  We’ve got a lot of exciting details to share with you very soon.

Thanks for all your support, and pat yourself on the pack for a job well done in helping craft this vision.  We’ll let you know how the big vote on Monday goes!
