Guest Blog: Everest the Buffalo

Hello again, friends!

Everest here. I thought I'd write in to update you all again on my goings on with St. Ann's second grade class. Before I do that though, I wanted to remind everyone about why I'm writing, or perhaps inform our first-time readers. I am a buffalo, out here at Shelby Farms Park, and a few months back I was lucky enough to be adopted by the second grade classes at St. Ann Catholic School in Bartlett through the Shelby Farms Adopt-a-Buffalo program.

These journal entry posts tell the stories of my adventures to the homes of those second graders. Here's an entry from March 25th, when I got to go home with Cara.

I went home with Cara today. we went to Bronies and had cupcakes for a snack. then we did some projects about Russia. then we had some free time and we blew up balloons. then cara's dad came to pick us up. when we got home I helped cara do her homework. then we had dinner. we had spaghetti and meatballs and green beans. then we had dessert. we had ice cream. then we had a bath. then we got ready for bed. the next morning we got dressed. then we had a English muffin. Then we brushed our teeth and brushed our hair. then we got in the car and went to school. The end.

How great was that? Cupcakes? Balloons? Spaghetti with meatballs? Another dessert? And even muffins from another country! I thought I had it easy, lounging about each and every day here at Shelby Farms Park. You humans live a pretty good life. I can't say how grateful I am to have y'all supporting my own lifestyle, here in this beautiful park. You really have been too kind to me and my herd.

Oh, and I want to mention for all you Facebookers out there that there is now a piece of flair with my face on it! So check that out too. I look good.

That's my post for now. My hoofs are tired, and it's feeding time. Until next time, well wishes from the wildlife out at Shelby Farms Park.

Sincerely,
Everest the Buffalo

As part of the Adopt-a-Buffalo program, each adopting family receives an official Shelby Farms park toy buffalo. Of course, Everest was not able to be taken home from the park. Each night, the toy buffalo was taken home by a member of the second grade classes at St. Ann, and each child was asked to write a journal entry about his or her time with "Everest". These journal entries will be shared here over the coming summer months. To learn more about the Adopt-a-Buffalo program and how you can get involved, visit our website at http://www.shelbyfarmspark.org/sfpc/, scroll over the option at the top of the page that encourages you to "Get Involved", and click on Adopt-a-Buffalo.
