Shelby Farms Youth Alliance

The Shelby Farms Youth Alliance is a youth empowerment leadership program for teenagers ranging from 14-19 years of age, sponsored by the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. As Park ambassadors, the Youth Alliance members engage in a wide variety of park projects, events and programs promoting environmental stewardship, community service and advocacy. The Youth Alliance was formed to give youth a voice in the destiny of the park, to acquaint them with their environment, to use teens to reach out to other teens in the region, to provide a forum for youth leadership and to help youth hone leadership skills that will last a lifetime. The Youth Alliance is charged with the following responsibilities:

  • The creation and implementation of programs and events in the park for teens
  • Stewardship of the park and advancement of the Conservancy’s mission
  • Representing the Youth Alliance and Conservancy at various functions
  • Hosting community service projects
  • Advocacy and outreach for the park and teens who use it
  • Adopting and maintaining volunteer projects at the park

Some membership benefits of membership in the Youth Alliance include:

  • Designing projects and implementing ideas within the park
  • Building professional skills such as public speaking, program planning, community outreach, writing, horticulture and other job readiness techniques
  • Exposure to new experiences and environments
  • Recognition as a steward of Shelby Farms Park

Youth Alliance Mission Statement

The mission of the Shelby Farms Youth Alliance is to preserve the future of the park, to inform youth, families and communities about the park and to raise awareness about environment issues while providing an entertaining recreational area for the community.
